Puppy Proofing [28 May 2007|09:07am]
I just spend hours cleaning and taping up my house. Puppies are a lot of work even before you get them!

I cleaned the entire house of anything stray lying on the ground.
Thomas and I put up a terribly-made baby gate in front of the kitchen to the cats can get to their food and litter box and the puppy can't.
I crawled around the house taping any power cords to the wall or carpet so lil' pup can't chew them.

Thomas says I'm going a bit overboard... but whatever! I bought Foley lots of toys already and I'm pretty much set for him. I'm sure we'll run by Petsmart after I pick him up if I need anything else.

Wednesday is going to be such a long day for the pup and me.

I start school that day. Computer class from 10-12pm. Then I have to pick up the pup... not sure what time yet, I haven't received the email with the details yet; I'm sure I'll get it tomorrow. Petsmart to show off the pup and pick up any more needed supplies. Then puppy class at 6:30-7:30pm. Then a night of crying, yelping baby puppy. :)

Foley's day will include a long flight from Oceanside, California to Denver International Airport. Followed by being picked up by this absolute stranger. 20 minute+ car ride to Petsmart. Petsmart... which will be interesting! Then puppy class. Crying/Whining/Yelping all night. :)

Ohhhh, the joy of a puppy! :)

HAWAII [26 May 2007|04:29pm]
I just got back from Hawaii last Saturday. I was there from May 10th til the 18th. I had SUCH a great time... I am highly considering moving there after I finish school.

Here are photos from my best vacation yet:

PS. Dennis, it was GREAT to see you! Thanks for meeting me for breakfast! :)

[25 May 2007|01:17am]
I had my CCI puppy orientation on Wednesday. Thomas came with me, luckily. We had to drive down an hour to Colorado Springs. The orientation lasted 2 hours. Funny thing, being that I'm a dog trainer, I already knew most of everything that Lynda had to tell us. But it's always good to hear it from someone else to reinforce it.

I should be getting the puppy's shipping arrangements early next week. I'll be picking him up on Wednesday, sometime in the afternoon. :)

For now, I have LOTS of reading to do. She sent me home with a binder and inch thick of rules/regulations/FAQs/etc. about everything and a training book, which is a nice probably 150-200 pages or so. This'll definitely make time go by faster at the gym on the exercise bike. :)

Also, I found out some information on my pup, which I'm excited about. His name is Foley II. The sire of the litter is named Beckett and he is full black lab. He is a new breeder to CCI and thus far has only produced black puppies! The dam is Ravi. She is a slightly older breeder girl and was born in April 2003. This is her 4th litter and all of her litters have been rather large. Her litters have been 13, 9, and 10 puppies! I'm not all too sure how many pups altogether are in Foley's litter just yet.

This is Parker. He's going to be buddies with Foley! :)

It's confirmed! [30 Apr 2007|04:33pm]
I spoke with my puppy program manager today. It's 100% confirmed I will be getting a puppy to raise.

I will be getting him around May 30th. Probably a day or two after. He is a black lab/golden cross. They breed pretty much all of their dogs to be lab/golden crosses. They explained to me they like the hard work ethic of the lab and the super friendliness of the golden. His name will be Foley. :) They name each litter with a letter and every puppy from that litter is named with the letter of that litter. So Foley is from litter F. :)

I'm very excited.

I have a very busy month coming up. Finals next week; last day on Wednesday.
I leave on Thursday morning at 6am for Hawaii. I will be back on Saturday, May 19th. Then I get my pup about 2 weeks later! Then summer school starts June 1! Great!

I reapplied to be a puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence at the beginning of March. I applied back in August, and they told me to reapply in March. So I did.

I had my phone interview a couple weeks ago that went very well. And I had my home interview yesterday, which went even better. I'm pretty sure it's a go!

I'm so excited. This will be my documentation of:

[22 Aug 2006|10:14pm]
My first day of school was yesterday.

Pain in the ass. I'm really unhappy to wake up early, first off. & yesterday just started out badly.

I wake up at 6:50am, because my hair was already done and straightened from the night before. I figured I could easily get up, restraighten any kinks, get dressed and be out the door by 7:30, stop at Stabucks for a chai tea, and onward to school beating the traffic. Well, my hair decided to be an asshole. I could not get the kinks of out the back of my hair for the life of me. Spent a good 15-20 minutes on that, that I expected to only take 5. Went to put on this great tank top I got from H&M that I've worn once and loved. Yeah, well. It doesn't fit me nearly as well as I did before I wore and washed it. So I have to figure that ordeal out, and had to find a bra that worked with it. So I put on like 3 different bras, contemplated changing shirts and then decided to go back to the first bra I had on with that same shirt. Whatever. I printed out a copy of my schedule a few weeks back when I went to look at books, so I figured it wouldn't be a problem to find that one and use that all day. Couldn't find it. Went on my computer to print it out, and I am wirelessly hooked up to Thomas' printer... and my computer was not picking up his printer. 3 minutes wasted. Went on his computer, which for some odd reason was not picking up the internet. I had to repair that and reconnect to the internet. Finally, got to print out my schedule 7 minutes later. It's now 7:40ish and I'm still not quite ready to go. I remembered that I have absolutely NO cash in my wallet and I need hard cash in order to park, $2 specifically that I just stick in a slot. Ugh! Put on my wedge heels (they're the only shoes big enough to not let my $200 pair of jeans drag on the ground), stuck a banana in my bag and woddled out the door without time to eat breakfast. I decided the best idea would be to run over to Target that has a Starbucks inside 2 blocks away to get my chai and since they're the only Starbucks I know that gives you the option for cash-back since I needed parking money. I drive over to Target, thinking "Wow, it's pretty dead here." Park. Walk up to the door. Locked. LOCKED! It doesn't open until 8:00. It's like 7:50. Great. No chai. No money. I leave and drive toward the highway. I'm contemplating where I'll be able to get money from. Park without paying? Bad idea since I'm already not having the best day, getting a parking ticket on top of that would just be the topper. I was coming up on King Soopers, cut over 3 lanes to get there. King Soopers is a 24-hour grocery store. I know they have cash-back, so I thought I'd just buy a pack of gum and get some money. Well, it happens that they don't have "impulse buys" at the registers. So I wandered around for a good 2 minutes finding something to buy: Mamba candy. Tasty. Cheap. Got that, got money. On my way to school. I get on the highway, which is insanely fast flowing for a Monday morning. Loving it. Driving along and then I see break lights. There is a curve coming up, that truly doesn't need breaking, but people are stupid. So I was in completed stopped traffic for a curve. Only in Colorado. Anyway, I ultimately did get to school pretty quickly. Parked. Walked to class. 2 minutes late. Luckily not a big deal.

First class, Micro Economics. I had this professor last semester for macro, so I know his ways. He gave the same spiel as last class. "I don't care if you come to class. I don't take attendance. I give you you're tests 2 weeks+ ahead of time. Open book. Work alone. Copy. I don't care. I'll come to class every day, ask if you have any questions. If you don't, I'll leave. Have a nice day." Yeah, he's pretty cool. I hate the whole way he does this class, but I figure since I didn't learn anything last class, mine as well not learn anything now. Easy A. This class lasted a whole 20 minutes. So I had over an hour to kill before next class. I went to Starbucks a small walk away, got my chai, sat down and read some of my latest obsession: The Devil Wears Prada. I haven't seen the movie, I will when I finish the book. I typically don't read books, so ANY book I read and FINISH... that says a lot.

Second class, Accounting I. Not bad. Pretty cool teacher. Has an english accent. Love it. He explained the syllabus, we did some group work and out we went. Seems like it's going to be a pretty good class. Not nearly as intimdating as I expected.

I have lunch from 11:15 to 1:00. All last year, Thomas and I set up our schedules so we had lunch together. This semester since it's his senior year, he didn't have very many options and his first class is the time of my entire lunch. So, I walked around for a bit, feet stinging from those damn shoes. Bumped into Brittany. Talked for a bit. She left for the mall. I left for Subway. Got a vege sub, which they totally stiffed me on veges. Hello! That's all I get on my sub, BE GENEROUS! Took my sub and sat on a ledge in the shade, took off my shoes(ahhh..) and ate my sub. Careful not to get any dressing on my jeans. After I ate, I pulled out the book and read some more. I really do like this book quite a bit so far. Thomas got out of his class early, so he met me for a quick hello. He walked me to my class.

Third class, Legal Environment of Business I. Blah! This class is going to be dreadful. It's a lot of term memorizing and knowing about certain cases. Not really my style, but I have to take it. I did find out I don't need to $120 book for the class though. Luckily I always wait to buy my books after the first day of classes. We started taking some notes and used up the entire 1 hour and 15 minutes of the class.

Fourth class, Business Statistics. Oh. My. God. I have always heard how terrible of a class this is. And I have a feeling I'm going to agree. Luckily, I'm good at math, so I think I'll like it somewhat. But. The professor did tell us that we need to set aside at least 10 HOURS... YES, TEN HOURS!... of homework per week! I barely have 10 hours to sleep, with going to school full time and working full time! I just about had a heart attack when he said that. We took some notes and he released us. He gave us homework to read the first chapter of the book I did not yet have, so I figured I'd better go buy it, along with my accounting book.

Off to the bookstore. The first thing I notice when I go in: CROWDED. Insanely. I shimmy through and grab my books. $150, $30, $90. Lovely. What's worse than the price was the line I had to stand it. It snaked around past the cash registers and way out into the isles of books. I couldn't believe it. It did go pretty fast though, thank god. 20-30 minutes later, with a throbbing arm and a credit card racked up $250, I ventured my way out to walk forever to my car. My feet hurt, my arms were dying from carrying the books. I know, complain a little more! I got to my car, took off my shoes, took a breath and drove home. The drive home surprising was smooth and quick.

I ran in the door home, changed my clothes and went to work. I didn't have time to eat at home, so I packed a sandwich to eat as soon as I got to work. My favorite manager was working, so I knew I had smooth sailing for the rest of the night.

Not the WORST of worst days, but being that I was semi-excited about my first day back to school, it was a bit of a bummer.

We'll see how school goes for the next week or so, and I may have to cut back on some hours from work. They're not going to be happy campers.

Here's the latest scoop:

I've decided to wait on the whole getting a dog thing. Especially since my dog is going to be 150lbs+. I'm not in the right place in life right now for a 8-10 year commitment that big.

So... I've decided to raise a puppy for the handicapped. I sent in my application to be a puppy raiser, and I will know the verdict within a month. If I am approved, I will get a lab or golden puppy next summer at 8 weeks of age and it will wear the little yellow "puppy in training" vest and get to go everywhere with me!

I'm super stoked. I get to keep and train the dog for a year and a half and then the dog goes for advanced training. Then the dog graduates and gets handed over to its new best friend. :)

PS.
It is 227 days, 1 hour, and 47 minutes until Tuesday, April 3, 2007 (Denver time).
And you know what that means... I am taking work off, and I am getting hammered, because I'LL FINALLY BE 21!!!!!!

[ mood | sleepy ]

I'm planning in the very near future:

001. Finish watching Sex & the City. I know, I know! I'm on Season 5 right now. & since I can watch them for hours on end, AND the boyfriend is going to be out of town for the next 6 days, I figure it'll get done.

002. Start school again. 3rd year, oh my. August 21. Sickening.
Classes I'm taking: Business Statistics, Legal Environment Business I, Principles of Accounting I, Principles of Economics-Micro.

003. Speaking of, I need to sell my books. asap.

004. Meet new friends at school this year. Damnit.

005. Great Dane dog show. A few in August.

Things I'm planning for the near, but a little bit farther, future:

001: Study abroad. School is getting a little cheaper year by year it seems for me. So with all these loans I don't have to take out right now, I can take out in a year or so to study abroad in Italy. That sounds delightful.

002. Hawaii. Set & ready to go. May 2007. Just need my plane ticket.

003. Buy my great dane puppy. He is going to be the most magnificent and adorable boy in the universe. I'm very excited. Summer '07.

Things that I would like to happen:

001. Live in NYC for one year. Obviously, the step before that, SAVE MONEY to live there! And I'm going to need like 5 roommates, who's down?

002. Get a sugar daddy. & a Lexus. & a diamond ring. necklace. & bracelet. Oh, and of course, that gorgeous cocktail ring by Louis Vuitton.

003. Visit California.

004. Find a job that I enjoy as much as I do with the one I currently have, but I can get more time off.
